Facebook is Ending Their Job Board
Prepare for changes this February.
What could have been, Facebook! Meta has decided to leave the job board business and will officially sunset the ‘Jobs on Facebook’ job board feature on February 22, 2022.
What is Jobs on Facebook?
The good news is, if you didn’t already know what Facebook’s job board was, you won’t have quite as hard of a time adapting when it’s phased out. Historically, Jobs on Facebook has operated as a small enclave in the Facebook Marketplace where job seekers can ‘apply’ to jobs. At its core, it was a simple job board that allowed both organic feeds from Applicant Tracking Systems as well as direct posts by employers. One of the best advantages of how the system worked was candidates could apply via a ‘quick apply’ function.
If you were a user of Jobs on Facebook, you knew there were pros to the job board. The ‘quick apply’ function served as an application in full – meaning applicants weren’t forwarded to an employer to fill out additional applicant paperwork (unlike Indeed). Of course, that resulted in some cons, too, namely a substantial applicant volume, but fewer conversions to hires.
So, what’s happening now?
Over the past four years, volume through Jobs on Facebook has grown and we were optimistic the platform would continue to evolve, allow for sponsorship and increase visibility for the companies we serve. Alas, Meta is exiting, stage left.
According to the official release found here, there’s some good news: businesses can still post jobs directly to their page and accept applicants. That means your cleaning or security business can feature job opportunities to your social audience through organic (non-paid) posts or boosted (paid) ads. Meta is also including a sponsorship function so you can directly advertise your jobs. The real downside is you won’t be able to integrate with your HR platforms.
Rethink your recruitment plan.
Rest assured, Facebook – and other social media channels, too – are still a fantastic source to target talent for the cleaning and security industries. Gen X and Boomers are key users within Facebook, and statistically speaking, those demographics experience higher retention than younger generations. With some features going away, now might be a good time to rethink your recruitment advertising plan. Explore keywords to boost your organic traffic for posts containing open jobs. Learn about boosted ads and fine-tune your job listings so the applications you’re linking to have a higher likelihood of converting.
This also means potential employees, who are used to having access to Jobs on Facebook readily available on desktop and mobile job searches, will also need to adjust. Make your jobs as highly visible as you can. Take steps to make sure the career page on your website is easy to find, navigate and read. Streamline the application process as much as you can, prioritizing the most important job filtering questions and leaving the rest for in-person interviews as you narrow your applicant pool. As always, your partners ─ and applicant recruitment and tracking experts ─ at TEAM are here to help.
